Research & Programs
I was able to participate in a lot of marine research programs, an international history program, and a literature analysis program.
SALPS: Dolphins
SALPS is a student-based program created by the Roundhouse Aquarium at the Manhattan Beach. In 9th grade, I led a group of students to research the correlation of dolphins surfacing and cloud cover. With a group of 4 other people, I gathered data at the Manhattan Beach every week for __ weeks. Taking the observed data, we created data graphs and detailed presentations through our analysis to researchers and scientists.
SALPS: Sand crabs
In 10th grade, I led another group in researching the correlation of water temperature and the number of sand crabs. By observing how the water temperature affected the number of sand crabs near the pier, my group collected data at the Manhattan Beach every week for __ weeks. Through long analysis and taking possible errors into account, we were able to create a presentation to present to researchers and scientists.
Sedna Week Program
This 8 day research program was supported by the secular non-governmental organization, Pro International based in Marburg, Germany and other international partners. Over zoom, young students from all over the world gathered together to represent their countries. I was the student leader to represent the United States group, leading my group to answer different historical questions and theories. Several topics were discussed including cultural diversity, imperialism, and racism.
Great Books Summer Literature & Discussion Program
This one-week online literature program included seminar-like classes and several spoken word events for students. Overall, students participated in a wide variety of activities related to literature with english professors. We mainly focused on analyzing diverse topics in literature including the Odyssey. All participating students were allowed to attend workshop classes with several mentors including professional writers, directors, and lyricists.
